Long Lake

Location:

This lake is located at the northwest corner of the intersection of I-35W and I-694 in New Brighton. 

Species Present:

Walleye: lower than average abundance, average size.
Northern Pike: below average abundance, average size.
Largemouth Bass: below average abundance, average size.
Bluegill: below average abundance, average size.
Crappie: above average abundance, smaller than average size.
Bullhead Species: above average abundance, average size.
Yellow Perch: low abundance, small size.

 

Boat Access:

Access to this lake is located on the south end of the lake in a New Brighton City Park. To reach the park, exit I-694 at Long Lake Road. Turn right and then another right down the frontage road along I-694. The frontage road ends at the boat access.
This lake has a surface water use restrictions. See sign at the access. 

Shore Fishing:

Long Lake has an abundance of shore fishing sites. The city park contains a fishing pier which is very popular. Anglers also fish all along the south end of the lake off the frontage road.

Additional shore fishing opportunities exist in Long Lake Regional Park located on the eastern shore of the lake. There are several choice locations accessed from the trail system in the park.

Management Plans:

  1. Fisheries standard lake survey in 2021.
  2. Stock 110,000 Walleye fry annually.
  3. Encourage commercial harvest of carp, bullheads and buffalo. 

Aquatic Invasive Species Alert:

This lake contains Eurasian watermilfoil and zebra mussels. Remove any visible plants from your boat, trailer, or other boating equipment before leaving the lake.

Comments:

Long Lake is a popular spot to fish for Northern Pike from shore. It is also a popular ice fishing lake, with most anglers fishing for Northern Pike or Crappie. Walleye are present, but can be difficult to catch. Long Lake has been a successful lake for Channel Catfish and large ones can be caught here.
