Location:
Martin Lake is located west of Wyoming, Minnesota in Linwood, Anoka County, Minnesota.
Species Present:
Walleye: below average abundance, above average size.
Northern Pike: below average abundance, above average size.
Largemouth Bass: below average abundance, average size.
Bluegill: average abundance, average size.
Crappie: above average abundance, average size.
Bullhead species: below average abundance, average size.
Yellow Perch: low abundance, small average size.
Boat Access:
The access to this lake is located within the Linwood-Island-Martin Regional Park operated by Anoka County. Travel west from Wyoming on Co. Rd 22 (Viking Blvd) to the junction of Anoka County Road 26 (Martin Lake Road N.E.). Turn right (north) and follow County Road 26 just over one-half mile to East Martin Lake Drive. The access will be just off Co. Rd 26 on the north side of E. Martin L. Drive.
Shore Fishing:
Anglers fish from the shoulder of E. Martin Lake Drive near the outlet. Continue east from the boat access on E. Martin Lake Drive. Parking on the shoulder of the road is prohibited in this area, so anglers must walk a considerable distance to use this site legally.
There is another potential shore fishing site on the west shore of the lake. This site is a neighborhood park with playground equipment, but the shoreline is suitable for angling.
Special Regulation:
This lake has a special regulation of a 10-fish daily limit for Sunfish.
Management Plans:
- Fisheries standard lake survey in 2024.
- Stock 140,000 Walleye fry annually.
- Encourage removal of Common Carp by licensed commercial fisherman.
- Work with the lake association and Sunrise River WMO to improve water quality.
Comments:
Martin Lake is small, but has been one of the better Walleye lakes in the area. Common Carp are abundant here, and as a result, the water quality is often limited with summer algae blooms common. Northern Pike are found in limited abundance, but the average size is good. Crappie are plentiful, but the quality varies greatly from year to year. Bluegill abundance and quality have been declining in recent years. Beginning in 2021 a new regulation for sunfish went into effect and the daily limit from Martin Lake is now 10 sunfish. This regulation is part of the Quality Sunfish Initiative that is working to protect and improve the size of sunfish in our lakes.
