Location:
Square Lake is located 7 miles north of Stillwater in the City of May.
Species Present:
Northern Pike: average abundance, smaller than average size, but some very large pike can be caught here.
Largemouth Bass: less than average abundance, smaller than average size.
Bluegill: average abundance, average size, but some larger individuals are present.
Crappie: lower than average abundance, average size.
Rainbow Trout: below abundance, average size.
Bullhead species: lower than average abundance, larger than average size.
Yellow Perch: low abundance, small size.
Boat Access:
The public boat launch site is located within Square Lake Regional Park, operated by Washington County. An admission fee is charged to enter the park, but there is no fee to use the access. Anglers may also launch at a resort adjacent to the park, but a fee is charged. The resort also rents boats and allows camping.
There are surface water use restrictions on this lake. There is a no wake zone around shore in addition to other restrictions.
Shore Fishing:
Public shore fishing is limited to the shoreline within the county park. The County maintains a fishing pier within the park on the north side of the beach.

Comments:
Square Lake has the best water quality of any lake in the east metro area. Bluegill are averaged size, but some anglers can locate larger fish in deeper water at the outside edge of the vegetation in summer. Scuba divers enjoy the deep clear water of this lake.
Northern Pike are abundant. Winter dark house spearers have taken fish exceeding 20 pounds.
