Rush Creek Habitat Improvement Project (2016)

Objective:

Increase the numbers of large Brown Trout (>16 inches) by improving stream habitat conditions on 2,000 ft of stream. Reduce stream sediment load by reducing stream bank erosion and improved stream channel geomorphology.

Description:

Access to this project can be obtained by walking down the state angling easement on Ahrensfeld Creek to Rush Creek.  The purchase of an additional access is being pursued.  Anglers are not to use the Wunderlich walk-in access as they have in the past. There is no easement on that area. The project is on-going to the bridge downstream at Cty 25 and will hopefully be completed by June 2016.  UPDATE: The project is now complete!  Work ended fall 2016. Win-Cres TU members have been busy using their brush mower for easier access to the project waters.

This project included -

  • Installation of woody debris
  • Installation of rip rap
  • Installation of cover rocks
  • Sloping ~4,750 feet of stream bank (some were originally 4-12 feet high)
  • Installation of root wads
