Wednesday, July 14 was very tropical-like over east central and southeast Minnesota with monsoon-like rains and very humid conditions. A heat advisory was in effect for parts of central and southern Minnesota on Wednesday, July 14th as very steamy air moved into the state out ahead of a cool front over eastern South Dakota.
Dew point temperatures rose into the middle and upper 70's with a 79 degree dew point temperature at the Twin Cities International Airport at 1pm. This is the highest dew point temperature seen at the Twin Cities Airport since 78 degrees on June 26, 2007. The highest dew point temperature on record for the Twin Cities was 81 degrees at 11:00am on July 30, 1999.
Having a dew point of 78 degrees or higher is a relatively uncommon occurrence in the Twin Cities. Since 1945 there have been only 114 hours of 78 degree or higher dew point temperatures recorded on 35 different days at the Twin Cities International Airport.
