A weak cold front was situated over the eastern Dakotas on the morning of June 11 2018. As it drifted east during the day, strong thunderstorms developed out ahead of the front. A warm front was over southwest Iowa and confined the more oppressive dew points well to the south of Minnesota.
Strong thunderstorms moved slowly to the east and brought heavy rains across western and central Minnesota during the daylight hours of June 11. As these thunderstorms dissipated in the evening, strong gusty winds caused tree damage in the west metro, specifically around the Lake Minnetonka area. The highest wind gust reported was 60mph at the St. Cloud Airport. The highest rainfall total found so far was 3.87 at an automated gauge near Cosmos in Meeker County.
