The last time there was a stretch of days that was in the top twenty longest stretches was from December 30, 2008 to January 30, 2009. The crown for "king cold" goes to the winter of 1874-75. In this winter there was a stretch of 80 days where the mercury did not reach freezing. That streak started on December 19, 1874 and did not end until March 8, 1875. In second place with 66 days was the memorable winter of 1977-78.
