Introduction:
Of the nine native turtle species found in Minnesota, the wood turtle (Clemmys insculpta) may well be the rarest and most vulnerable. The turtle is classified as threatened in Minnesota and is given full protection by the law. Clemmys insculpta reaches the extreme western edge of its North American range in eastern Minnesota. The second largest population within the state is found XXXXXX. A wood turtle nesting survey was conducted XXXXXX. A total of 9 wood turtle observations were made during this field survey.
