The cane pole is the easiest fishing rod to use because it has no reel. Made of natural cane or plastic, it simply features an eye on its tip where the line is tied.
Typically, the line is about the length of the pole. Simply tie a hook on the end of the line, add a couple of split shot weights about a foot above the hook and place a bobber on the line.
If the bobber sinks you have too many split shot on your line. If the bobber floats high on the water or on its side you have too few split shot. If the bobber is slightly submerged it is perfect.
To cast, sweep the rod in an underhand motion toward to where you want the bait to drop.
