Route description
The Rum River begins its journey at Lake Mille Lacs and continues 145 miles to it's confluence with the Mississippi River. Along the way, the river meanders through a thick canopy of maples, oaks, and ash trees, leading to this river's designation as a Wild and Scenic River. This stretch of the Rum River offers paddlers an opportunity to encounter an abundance of wildlife including white-tail deer, beavers, song birds, and bald eagles. The Rum River is also a favorite among anglers with strong populations of smallmouth bass, northern pike, and walleye.
