Map: Redwood River
The Redwood River originates near Ruthton, passes through Camden State Park and ends in Redwood Falls. After a portage around the Lake Redwood Dam, you can continue paddling to the confluence with the Minnesota River. This river shares a map with the Minnesota River (Map 3).
The Redwood River originates at high elevation, among the wind farms high atop Ruthton's Buffalo Ridge. The most canoeable portion of the river begins near Marshall and ends at Lake Redwood in Redwood Falls. Those who wish to continue on to the Minnesota River will have to portage around the Lake Redwood Dam under the Highway 19 Bridge, re-entering in Alexander Ramsey Park.
At the area around Redwood Falls, paddlers will encounter thick forest and high ridges that tower above the Minnesota River. You will also find a rock ledge that was once dynamited to allow steamboats upstream.
