Weekly CO report
Statewide Marine Unit
Last updated: 2025-05-19
CO Matt Miller (Marine Unit - Duluth) worked evacuations and traffic control on the Camp House and Jenkins wildfires. A complaint was received about heavy equipment working in a tributary to Lake Superior. Upon brief investigation, a landowner was found to have used a loader to remove debris and material from the stream bed, creating heavy turbidity and silting in the stream. The area hydrologist immediately met with the landowner to determine best restorative plans. Enforcement action was taken for public waters and commercial violations.
CO Mitch Lawler (Marine Unit Alexandria) kept an eye on western Minnesota lakes this week as high winds kept activity very low. With water temps still only in the high 50s or low 60s, an accidental fall in could quickly become catastrophic. Late-week rain events put a damper on most water recreation, but several anglers in Douglas and Grant counties were encountered with walleyes in hand.
