Sand Dunes State Forest Operational Plan

Sand Dunes State Forest Nroth Trailhead sign.

The revised operational plan for the Sand Dunes State Forest was finalized in November 2017 following an extensive public engagement process. The plan outlines management activities through 2022. It is based in sound natural resource science and reflects the DNR's goal of sustainable forest management for economic, environmental, and recreational benefits. The DNR took public comment on the plan during summer 2017. Read the final plan and DNR responses to public comment here:

Stakeholder Advisory Group

In 2016 DNR formed a "Stakeholder Advisory Group" to provide feedback and advice on managing the Sand Dunes State Forest. Members of the group included local landowners and others interested in forestry, ecology, recreation, wildlife, and land management.

Public meetings were held with the Stakeholder Advisory Group June through December 2016. DNR submitted a report to the 2017 Minnesota Legislature summarizing this engagement process.
