The Grants Unit coordinates and assists grantees with pass-through grant policies and procedures. State grant funds are disbursed to grantees through the recommendations of the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources and the Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council. These funds are used for special environment and natural resources projects as well as restoration, protection, and enhancement projects for wetlands, wildlife, and forests.
The Grants Unit is dedicated to serving our customers, partners, and the citizens of Minnesota by adhering to the department's mission statement, which is to work with citizens to conserve and manage the state's natural resources, to provide outdoor recreation opportunities, and to provide for commercial uses of natural resources in a way that creates a sustainable quality of life.

Please review your grant agreement in its entirety before beginning work on your project. Contact your assigned Grants Specialist for any questions you may have about your grant agreement.
Definition: Grants are financial assistance paid or services furnished by a state agency via a third party to an eligible recipient. The state agency making the grant receives no direct benefit as a result of making the grant. The state is not actually getting anything with a grant, it is paying for someone else to get something.
