The Redwood River is a designated trout stream that was established in 2007 as a state water trail. It originates near Ruthton, runs through the cool, forested valley of Camden State Park and ends in Redwood Falls. After a portage, paddlers can pick up the Minnesota River in Redwood Falls.
The Dakota called the river Chanshayapi or "Redwood," possibly for the abundance of red-osier dogwood and red cedars found in different areas along the river.
