CWD mail-in testing kits

A mail-in CWD sampling kit

Enter Data Online

Each kit requires that hunters remove a lymph node sample from a harvested deer. Click the button above to view the instructional video so you can successfully extract a sample.

Kits include:

  • Tyvek envelope with prepaid return label
  • Pair of large nitrile gloves
  • Sample collection and submission instructions
  • Datasheet or instructions to submit data online
  • Pre-labeled sample bag
  • Resealable bag
  • Tweezers
  • Freezable cold pack
  • Silver padded mailer

Hunters can request a kit online or, in most instances, visit a local wildlife office to pick one up. Kits are provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Hunters may also use kits obtained in a previous year.

The kit and testing is free. Test results will be available online.

Kits requested online will be mailed to hunters starting in September. Mailings will continue throughout deer season until the supply runs out. Hunters should expect their kit to arrive within seven days of their online request.

Important notice

If you obtained a kit prior to November 2024 and are using it to send in a sample this season, please contact us for a new return label prior to sending. We are currently working with UPS to resolve issues with expired return labels and apologize for the inconvenience. New labels can be requested using this form and will be emailed to you. Samples can be frozen while you await your new shipping label.
