Data Releases
- December 2019 - Initial project data release documents
-
The DNR released the initial results from the DNR Corescan Project in December 2019. The data release included more than 180 documents created by Corescan and delivered to the DNR in October 2019; supporting documents created by the DNR, and historical exploration data for the thirty-two scanned drill cores.
The initial set of project documents have been organized by Focus Area and released in five focus area-specific zip files below (along with a sixth data release of general project results). The entire set of documents released on December 11, 2019 can be downloaded in single large zip file: Initial data release package - December, 2019 - DNR Corescan Project video series
-
In October 2019, the DNR and Corescan organized a seminar in conjunction with the initial release of DNR Corescan Project data. The presentations covered the following topics:
- Introduction to the DNR Corescan Project
- Introduction to Hyperspectral Core Imaging
- Focus area selection & significance
- Project methods
- Summary of initial project results
- Coreshed practicum
The seminar presentations were recorded and are available along with PDF versions of each presentation on the Video Series page.

The DNR is releasing reports and ancillary data from the DNR Corescan Project. This data release includes the Corescan-authored project summary report and appendix of mineral composition data, a DNR-authored spreadsheet with information about the thirty-two scanned cores, a January 2018 Coreshed User Guide, and other documents with data that is pertinent to each of the project Focus Areas.
The data release files can be downloaded within the following zip file: Reports & ancillary data - Biwabik Iron Formation/Mesabi Range Focus Area

Abstract and poster presentations
Preliminary results from the DNR Corescan Project were also discussed in a presentation by Lionel Fonteneau, Brigette Martini, and Don Elsenheimer at the September, 2019 Australasian Exploration Geoscience Conference (AEGC).
- Corescan Project raw data cubes
-
Raw imaging data were collected for each of 1,622 core boxes during the core scanning phase of the DNR Corescan project. These raw, unprocessed data include hyperspectral imaging, RGB photography, and laser profiles organized as data cubes totaling nearly three terabytes (3 Tb). Files are spatially referenced BIL format, compatible with various remote sensing and GIS software packages.
Interested users are invited to contact [email protected] to arrange for data transfer using a user-provided storage solution, such as an external hard drive. Users can also access the processed project data via Coreshed, which provides analytical and file management tools along with the imaging data. See Coreshed Data Access for more information on that solution.
