Twelve Minnesota state parks offer campgrounds specially designed to accommodate horses and horse trailers. These campsites are specifically designed for people camping with horses. Riders over the age of 16 need a Horse Pass to ride DNR-managed horse trails.
All sites have a picnic table and fire ring with grill, a hitching rail or high line, and access to water, primitive toilets, manure bins or bunkers. Several have optional electric hook-ups. Seasonal availability varies by park, but typically the horse campgrounds are open May 1 to November 1.
One horse trailer or tent per campsite, with a maximum of six people. Pets are allowed but must be leashed and attended at all times, both in camp and on the trail. Only approved firewood is allowed.
